Assignment 1
Hello, I am Kelly Kilcrease, Associate Professor of Management. I have been teaching at Pierce for ten years. For the past eight years I have been teaching and writing business courses on-line via e-College and I have just started to learn Blackboard. During that time I have found the biggest challenge is keeping student comments (found in on-line discussion, blogs, or e-mail) on pace to meet the course goals. Particularly challenging is keeping the written comments focused to the weekly objective. Last, I am concerned that on-line communication can stifle creativity and my not necessary serve as a contributor for organizational change.

I'm relieved to hear that you have so much experience with e-College, Kelly; that will be a big help to us in our workshop. The challenge you describe (keeping students on task) is a familiar one, and I'm glad you raised it, so we can talk about it. When you say you want to keep students "on pace" with the course, do you mean that they tend to lag in their posting (or just not do it) or do you mean that they post too much--but just not on topic?
Wini
Wini- in terms of pace I am primarly refering to staying on assignment from one week to the next. Generally in e-college we have one week to complete a topic area and we want to complete that in a quality manner. If some students are lagging or add to the discussion only at the end this defeats the quality of the work for that week.
Kelly: I know you are a very good teacher. Now I know you are also a very diligent student who finished your assignment much earlier than the deadline.
You have been a very supportive colleague and thank you for all the help given to me during my first year!
