rationale for BA 417-01 blog
The course expectations assignment I have designed is a good fit with blogging because the technology provides a timely public discourse for students to share questions and concerns they have about the course prior to our first meeting. I am hoping it results in students arriving in class more ready to learn. It will inform the teaching of my first class by providing me with a baseline of my students' writing and thinking as well as a glimpse into what is of import to this particular class of students.

If you can get students working BEFORE your course starts, you are way ahead of the game. I hope you don't find yourself with 2 or 3 extra weeks at the end!
I like how your assignment gets the students to apply what they will be learning outside the classroom. Hopefully this way they will be more engaged and get a better understanding of the theories/principles.
Pat, I really like this idea as it sould reduce student's concern about the course and allow you to jum right in to the material. Can you use any "ice breakers" on-line? Would you assign a specific reading before the class?

Pat: I think for a senior business seminar class, in which most students should have enough preparation to write knowledgable business analysis, blogging definitely is a valuable tool for teaching. If I were a student, I will be thrilled to have this online component. Well, I also like the idea you mentioned that to test the effectiveness of blogging by doing an experiment:use blogging in one class but a counterpart in the other class to test the effect of blogging. What a brilliant idea!
