Tracy's Rationale for "Phoning in Your Topic" Assignment

I have two main reasons for asking students to phone in their essay topics.
1. Capitalizing on their oral/auditory skills before they start writing. Many people can articulate things more comfortably in the spoken word before they're ready to commit them to paper.
2. Time factor. Our 8-week GPS terms fly by. They can do this from home on Saturday, and those that have internet access on Sunday can listen to the audio recordings after I post them to the blog on Sunday.

You should have some interesting results. People speak in a different 'voice' than they write, and often speak before they fully engage their brain. And there is no edit function

Tracy-

Great idea, learners often can express themselves verbally then written so I think that it is a great concept to using the phone to phone in their topics. This should aid them in starting the writing process because many of adult learners particularly haven’t been part of the writing process since high school. This is a method may be the step the right direction in a short eight week term to get them to express their written ideas again.

Tracy, I like your idea and I think you are a very dedicated teacher and a pioneer in applying technogoly into classroom.
